Quick Tip #1: Pick a Project

So I got a new camera and microphone setup and thought I would test it out by adding a new feature to the site. I’m calling it Quick Tips and I’m hoping to use these video shorts when I don’t have time to film a full length podcast. I also think they will be a great way to answer viewer questions and feature viewer tips and suggestions as well. So if you have tips or questions of your own, send them along! Hope you like the new segment!

  1. This is great addition. I wanted to say that the sound from the footage is only coming through on the left channel. The sawing sounds from the into come in on both channels (left and right stereo). Maybe there is a setting you can change.

  2. Hi Bob,
The camera looks great, and the sound is great, except on my computer the audio only played on the left speaker. I was wearing headphones, so it sounded kind strange.

I would love to see a show on your lathe, how you built it, how well it works, things you would change, etc.

Thanks again. Your podcast is quickly becoming my favorite.

  3. Ditto on the audio only coming through the left side. And yes you are absolutely right about getting sidetracked by the tools and not actually building anything. My problem is picking out a project. I always try to look for the perfect project which I rarely find. I just need to pick something and go for it. I can always give it away or throw it away if I don’t want to keep it afterwards. šŸ˜‰

  4. Thanks guys! Sorry about the sound. I need to work the kinks out of the new setup. The latest episode of the podcast (# 11) seems to have the same problem with sound only coming from one side. I’ll get it worked out for the next podcast.

  5. I also want to say thanks for your podcasting efforts Bob!

As a somewhat new wanna-be woodworker… This is an excellent tip! I’ve found on several occasions that I goto a website like lee valley and load up my shopping cart with all of the tools I think that I should have. Then poof, I’m discouraged because it seems so expensive all at once.

Great tip just please don’t share this with my wife šŸ˜‰
